Our shores have most certainly been awash with Olympic fever since our Olympic bid win. As the Games have neared, we are positively Olympic crazy.
Not all of the Olympic hype is based in London. Some venues all over the UK are being utilized for at least one part of the Games. Stadiums in England, Scotland and Wales are opening their turnstiles to those from home and away, to support their teams and be part of the sensational atmosphere that will be experienced during the whole of London 2012.
Prior to the opening ceremonies, one sport would have already kicked off. Playing host to both men’s and women’s football, the Welsh rugby venue – the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff – will host the very first of the Olympic events.
On the 25th July, the stadium will see our women’s home team – Great Britain – pit their football boots against New Zealand as well as a later match between Cameroon and Brazil.
The following day, on the eve of the opening ceremonies, the male teams from Brazil and Egypt will be pitting themselves against each other to advance through the competition. You will find more matches starring our home team being held at the Millennium Stadium on the 28th July for the women’s event and 1st August for the men’s discipline.
Altogether, Cardiff’s iconic venue will host eleven Olympic Football matches, including the bronze medal final.
Located within central Cardiff, the Stadium has excellent transport links – a short walk away from the bustle of Queen Street. You can find an excellent choice of eateries and drinking establishments in the area, ensuring your trip to the Cardiff capital is a pleasant one.
Don’t miss out on the Olympic fun – tickets for the matches are still available and you can book hotels in Cardiff near the Millennium Stadium to ensure a stress free Olympic experience.
