A Father’s Promise Fulfilled Even In His Deathbed

We have heard of stories about great fathers and how they give their best and work hard for the family.

I am sharing the story of my kababayan from Baliwag, Bulacan whom I have known since I was a kid. We fondly call him Tatang and I have witnessed how he raised his only daughter who was a high school classmate. By the way, Tatang is my godfather.

Tatang is a government employee who I can describe as dedicated in his job. During a gathering in his home, he would often tells us how important honesty and respect are. He said that if ever we will get our own job in the future, we would always be reminded of never tell lies and follow our leaders. He added that this should begin at home and school while we are still young.

He would also share how proud he is of his daughter and that he promises to give her a good education.

Two years ago, Tatang suffered a heart attack and died at the age of 56 at home. During his last moment, he was able to inform his wife and daughter that he has an insurance policy with Cocolife, the biggest Filipino-owned stock life insurance company in the country.

It was January 24, 2017 and I will never forget that day. I was in their house because I was actually looking for someone to comfort me because of a family problem. In turns out that I will be the one comforting the family.

After Tatang was laid to rest, we found out that he has a Cocolife Future Perfect policy since 2007 which gives him substantial funds upon maturity. It is a disciplined savings program that can help you accumulate the much needed funds for your desired maturity year. His wife and daughter as beneficiaries claimed checks worth P300,000.00.

Indeed, it was a father’s promise fulfilled even on his deathbed.

I am sharing this story because I’ve been seeing a lot of great father stories shared online. I thought Tatang’s promise can serve as an inspiration to others as well.
